New Jersey Quail Stocking Program on the Rebound

Members and officers of the state Federation enlisted support statewide in this endeavor. The energy and efforts of the Federation as a whole along with the cooperation of the Fish and Game Council and ultimately Director Dave Chanda responded favorably and due to this strong united coalition have restored our most treasured quail stocking program.
As with anything else this favorable action comes with a price. Along with the quail stocking restoration we New Jersey hunters must demonstrate to the Division that Pheasant and Quail stamps sales justify the continuation and longevity of the quail program. This is up to each and every one of us who carries a gun, trap, bow or fishing rod in New Jersey. It is a clear demonstration of the fruitfulness and the power of a strong united coalition of sportsmen here in New Jersey.
We are blessed in New Jersey with two beautiful quail hunting Wildlife Management Areas in Peaslee and Greenwood. These areas are popular with many out-of-state quail hunters who found them economically feasible to enjoy. These tracts of quail savannah were not only very attractive to New Jersey quail hunters but to non-residents as well. Prior to cutbacks in the quail program, hunters from neighboring states of New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and even as far away as Maine were paying close to $200 in non-resident license fees and bird stamps to enjoy this resource. When the program got cut New Jersey lost a lot of needed revenue.
Now the program is on the rebound, stocking levels have been restored and extensive land management and habitat improvements are underway. It is up to us to maintain its existence.
As New Jersey sportsmen in general, you support of these efforts is vital in continuing the program. Even though you may not be a quail hunter, your particular area of interest could be under attack next and you will need all of us to support you. With the anti-hunting sentiment of today, we must be united and strong. The future of hunting and fishing is now and, united, we can overcome the challenge. Support the quail program. Sign up a new member to the Federation now, spread the word and don’t forget the quail hunters need you now and you may need the quail hunters tomorrow.
